Business Community and Political Leaders Offer Encouragement and Support to the Executive Committee and Mayor John Tory
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has written a supportive Expo 2025 letter to Mayor John Tory, saying “our government is prepared to explore next steps.” He goes on to say that, “we are committed to strengthening Canada’s place in the world as well as restoring our country’s reputation as an active and constructive partner of the international community.” Clearly, an Expo could amplify this. Canada’s rejoining the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) is crucial to launching a bid. The PM is clearly signalling that if City Council supports initiating the process for an Expo bid, his government is ready to talk. This most encouraging development was not known at the time of writing the staff report, nor was the offer of financial support from the private sector to develop the next phase of feasibility necessary in the pre-bid work of Expo 2025.
